Research Notes on Kegel Exercises
Exercises to strengthen pelvic floor muscles are called Kegel exercises, named after Dr. Arnold Kegel, who discovered the method. Conditions such as pregnancy, childbirth, and being overweight can weaken pelvic floor muscles, and this weakening can result to urinary incontinence. Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles is beneficial for those who have bladder control problems and it also prevents uterine prolapse (sagging of one or more pelvic organs).
