Research Notes on Karyotype
A karyotype is a set of chromosomes. Studying karyotypes, we can see the arrangement of chromosomes. Karyotypes also allow us to study abnormal chromosomal positions and cellular functions.1
Fast Facts:
- A karyotype analysis can be done by viewing chromosomes during mitosis through a light microscope.2
- Analyzing karyotypes in parents can help to determine whether chromosome abnormalities can be passed on to a child.3
- Analyzing karyotypes can help to determine the cause of birth defects or disability.3
