Research Notes on Kanamycin
Kanymycin sulfate is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of infections. It comes in both oral and intravenous forms. Because of severe side effects, kanamycin is not usually given to humans.1 Serious side effects include changes in hearing, allergic reactions, and toxicity to kidneys.
Fast Facts:
- Common, less serious side effects include: nausea, headache and feeling drowsy or sleepy.2
- Other antibiotics, aspirin and NSAIDs pain relivers may have negative interactions with kanamycin.3
- Not safe to use during pregnancy.
