Jewish Hospital was a potent force in the Louisville medical community before joining forces with Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital. The world famous hand surgeons of Kleinert, Kutz and Associates have performed most of their ground breaking surgeries at Jewish Hospital. The first successful hand transplant was performed at Jewish Hospital in 1999.¹ Jewish Hospital has an excellent heart care center and is considered a significant heart transplantation hospital. Jewish Hospital has helped pioneer the use of artificial heart devices, including the Jarvik artificial heart.¹

• -- In 1962 they performed the first reported repair of a digital artery in the hand.¹
• -- Sisters of Charity of Nazareth owned and ran Sts Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, and Our Lady of Peace Hospital before the merger with Jewish Hospital.²
