Irritability occurs when a person experiences an extreme sensitivity to stimulation of any kind.1 It can be caused by a variety of factors including alcohol or drug use, sleep deprivation, or various medical conditions.2 The presence of irritability can be an indication that there is an underlying medical condition.1 Irritability is often used in reference to infants and young children.2
