Iron Overload Disorder

Iron overload disorders are diseases caused by iron accumulating in the body.1 Also referred to as hemochromatosis, this medical condition allows the intestines to absorb excess iron over many years, resulting in large amounts of iron being stored in the organs of the body.2 Eventually, damage to the organs will occur.2

  • -- Organs usually affected are the liver, pancreas, pituitary gland and the heart.2
  • -- Accidental ingestion can result in dangerously high levels of iron.
  • --Acquired iron overload symptoms include fatigue, amenorrhea, changes in skin color, weight loss and depression.3
