Research Notes on Interferon Alfa 2b
Interferon alfacon 1 is a synthetic version of a substance produced naturally by the body to help fight infections and tumors.1 It is utilized for the treatment of hepatitis B and C, skin cancer, genital warts, Kaposi's sarcoma, and specific types of leukemia.1 During treatment, its side effects and effectiveness may be monitored through simple blood tests and physical exams.2
Fast Facts:
- Side effects can include diarrhea, upset stomach, itching, and skin rash.2
- Administered daily via injection for the first 10 to 24 weeks. Subsequent treatments will be given three times weekly.2
- FDA pregnancy category C.1
