Research Notes on Insulin Boost Restores Muscle Growth

Researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston have recently reported the results of a study in which insulin, when administered to the elderly who do not suffer from diabetes, can have a significant impact on building muscle tissue. Researchers admit that although more muscle mass was not achieved with the use of insulin alone, chemical reactions inside the muscle tissue showed definite increased stimulation.1

Fast Facts:

  • Although promising, the study was relatively small, consisting of only 14 participants.2
  • Researchers gave the study participants double the amount of insulin that is normally produced after eating a meal to stimulate the muscles in a manner to that of a younger person.2
  • Insulin helps to dilate capillaries, exposing more muscles to the vital nutrients and hormones necessary to stimulate the muscles.2
