Research Notes on Incontinence and Childbirth
Childbirth can be a cause of incontinence in some women. About 63 percent of women with stress incontinence say their symptoms began after giving birth. A delivery using forceps increases the risk of urinary incontinence.1

- Episiotomies increase the risk of fecal incontinence.1
- Kegel exercises can help alleviate incontinence after childbirth.1
- Many women will have some degree of incontinence during pregnancy.2
