Research Notes on Impotence
Impotence is the inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of his partner, or the inability to achieve ejaculation.1 Most men experience this at some point in their lives, usually by age 45.2 Impotence is also used to describe other problems that interfere with sex and reproduction, such as lack of sexual desire or problems with ejaculation or orgasm, which makes it distinct from erectile dysfunction.3
Fast Facts:
- Impotence affects approximately 30 million men in the United States.4
- Impotence can have physical or pschological causes.5
- Premature ejaculation and male infertility are quite different from impotence.5
