Research Notes on Imitrex Dosage

As with most medications, the dosage of Imitrex will vary from person to person, based on many factors. When prescribed Imitrex tablets to treat the symptoms of your existing migraine headache, the dosage will be either a 25 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg tablet, not to exceed 200 mg a day. The Imitrex nasal spray is administered in 5 mg, 10 mg, or 20 mg doses, sprayed into only one nostril, unless you are prescribed the 10 mg dose. In this case, you will administer one 5 mg spray into each nostril. The Imitrex nasal spray dosage should not exceed 40 mg per day. Should you be prescribed the Imitrex injection, 4 mg or 6 mg will be injected under the skin. You should not exceed 12 mg of the Imitrex injection in one day.1
