The purpose of a diet for hypoglycemia is to slow the absorption of food. You should increase the amount of complex carbohydrates, stay away from food such as soda pop, pastries, cookies, cakes, candy, and pies. You should also increase the amount of high fiber foods.1

Fast Facts:

  • You should not skip breakfast; this is the most important meal of the day for someone who is hypoglycemic.2
  • You should eat small and frequent meals to help control hypoglycemia.3
  • Watching your weight and exercising regularly can also be helpful in controlling hypoglycemia.4
