Research Notes on Hyperactivity
Signs of hyperactivity include impulsiveness, distractibility, and excessive body movements.1 A diagnosis of hyperactivity is highly subjective, someone who appears excessively fidgety to one observer, may not appear that way to another. Hyperactivity can be caused by a number of factors including emotional disorders and attention deficit disorder.1 (Hyperactivity can also refer to an overactive part of the body, such as a gland.)
Fast Facts:
- Children who are hyperactive typically have trouble responding well to direction.2
- Hyperactivity can be treated with therapy and medication.3
- Males are more likely to be diagnosed as being hyperactive than females.2
