Research Notes on How to Use a Heart Rate Monitor
Using a heart rate monitor is easy once you know how. First you need to find your maximum heart rate.1 For men, the formula is 220 minus your age, and for women it is 226 minus your age.2 After you find your maximum heart rate, you can put the heart rate monitor on during your workout. Decide what you want your intensity of your workout to be and pay attention to the numbers on your monitor.3
Fast Facts:
- A heart rate monitor can help you train smarter by listening to your heart.4
- Your heart rate will vary depending on the exercise you are doing.2
- Use various percentages of your maximum heart rate to calculate how high your heart rate should be during different parts of your workout.2
