Depression can strike anyone. In the United States, close to 21 million adults suffer from depression. Many of those suffering from depression do not seek help because they do not recognize the signs. Possible signs of depression include changes in sleep or eating patterns, restlessness, difficulty with making decisions, crying spells, unexplained lack of energy, feelings of helplessness or hopelessness and thoughts of death.1 Many people who are depressed also experience headaches and pain in the muscles and joints.2
