Knowing how to read food labels can help a person choose the proper foods and make wise choices when shopping. Reading a food label will inform the person of what's in the food such as cholesterol, fat, carbohydrates, sodium, protein and vitamins. The label will also state the amount of calories per serving.1
Fast Facts:
- Ingredients are listed from largest to smallest amounts.2
- Claims such as "low fat" have to meet strict government definitions.2
- Serving size is base on typical amounts of food consumed.2
