Research Notes on How to Prevent Bed Wetting

Bedwetting (also called enuresis) can be prevented using a number of behavioral therapies. Some of these therapies are waking during the night to use the bathroom, using a bedwetting alarm, and using positive reinforcement. Consult with a health care provider before attempting to prevent bedwetting in order to rule out any possible underlying conditions.1

Fast Facts:

  • Bedwetting is a common condition in children and adolescents.2
  • Bedwetting is most common among people who are deep sleepers.2
  • Children often outgrow bedwetting on their own without treatment.2
