Avoiding trigger foods is the Arthritis Foundation's dietary suggestion in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).1 Currently there is no specific diet recommended to control RA. A healthy, balanced diet along with exercise and weight maintenance is recommended.2 RA is a systemic autoimmune disorder that causes pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the joints.

- Arthritis Foundation recommends a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and grains. It should also be low in saturated fats and calories.3
- Research has shown positive results in decreasing symptoms of RA with a gluten-free vegan diet.4
- The Mediterranean diet has also been beneficial in improving RA symptoms and lowering risk.1
- Omega-3 fatty acids are known to have an anti-inflammatory affect in the body.1
