Deciding to become a child psychiatrist is a major decision, especially since it will take a lot of rigorous training, dedication, and a financial commitment to do so. To become a child psychiatrist, you will be required to attend college for four years to obtain a bachelor's degree, attend medical school for another four years, and then spend an additional four to six years in residency training. Choosing a sub-specialty will require addition training.1
