Research Notes on How is Crohn’s Disease Diagnosed
Unfortunately, there is no one test that can be used to accurately diagnose Crohn's disease. Instead, your physician will consider your physical symptoms, past history, and the results from a variety of medical tests in order to determine that Crohn's disease is present. Blood tests, along with various imaging studies and X-rays will aid your physician in his diagnosis.1
Fast Facts:
- You may be asked to undergo several endoscopic procedures, such as a colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, and a capsule endoscopy.2
- X-rays, with or without a contrast dye, may also be performed in order to make a definitive Crohn's disease diagnosis.2
- Your physician will be very interested in all your physical symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever, and pain in the abdomen.1
