Most adults need about seven to nine hours of sleep each day.1 Research has shown that people who averaged about seven hours of sleep each night lived longer than those who got more or less sleep.1 People who consistently get less than the appropriate amount of sleep each day, are at a greater risk of developing heart disease and high blood pressure.1
Fast Facts:
- Teenagers should average about eight-and-a-half or nine hours of sleep a day.2
- Newborn children should get up to 16 hours of sleep daily.2
- Children ages seven to 12 years need approximately 10-11 hours of sleep a day.2
