Research Notes on House Dust Allergy
When a person with allergies breathes in an allergen, the immune system is triggered. This causes a variety of allergy symptoms. Symptoms vary from person to person. House dust consists of many things such as tiny particles of pollen, mold spores, hair, animal dander, dust mites, and insect parts. Many of the things in house dust are potentially allergenic materials.1
Fast Facts:
- Eliminating or reducing items that collect dust such as stuffed animals, wicker baskets, and heavy drapes can help reduce house dust.2
- Dust mites are the primary cause of dust allergy.1
- Many people with allergies to house dust find having bare floors of wood, tile or linoleum helpful.2
