Research Notes on Hip
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint where the head of the femur meets with the pelvis. The actual socket where the femur fits is called the acetabulum.1 Hips are very stable and it takes a lot to injure them. Sports, running and falling all can cause hip problems.2
Fast Facts:
- There are five hip bone areas: sacrum, coccyx, ilium, ischium, and the pubis.3
- The Hip Society is dedicated to "the advancement of knowledge relating to the hip joint."4
- Hip and groin pain are related, especially when hip bursitis is involved.5
