High Cholesterol and Heart Disease

GuideWisdom™

This WisdomCard managed by: Nicole Kinsey

A high cholesterol level is a major risk factor of heart disease. Excessive amounts of cholesterol cause build up of plaques on the walls of the arteries. This disease called atherosclerosis narrows blood vessels, slowing down or blocking the blood flow to the heart. Angina (chest pain) occurs when not enough oxygen-carrying blood flows to the heart. Heart attack ensues when the blood vessels are completely blocked.
