High blood pressure can be caused a number of ways. Obesity, genetics, insulin resistance, and age are all possible risk factors of high blood pressure. In addition, conditions such as sleep apnea, Cushing's syndrome, polycystic kidney disease, and pregnancy can also cause high blood pressure.1

- High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a condition that occurs when a person's blood pressure is elevated.2
- High blood pressure can lead to a stroke, heart attack, heart failure, arterial aneurysm, and chronic renal failure.2
- There are two types of high blood pressure: primary and secondary.2
