A heterozygote is a person who possesses two different forms of a certain gene, one from each parent. Someone who is a heterozygote may carry an allele for a disease or trait from one parent, but have the normal allele from the other parent. In the case of a simple dominant gene, this person would be a carrier of the disease or trait, but show no symptoms.
