Research Notes on Herbal Supplements
Herbal supplements are a type of dietary supplement that contain herbs. An herb (also called a botanical) is a plant or plant part used for its scent, flavor, and/or therapeutic properties. Herbal Supplements are used in the treatment and management of certain diseases and medical conditions.
Fast Facts:
- Herbs may be taken internally as pills or powders, dissolved into tinctures or syrups, or brewed in teas and decoctions.
- Not all herbs are safe to consume. It is important to always check up on an herb's safety prior to use.
- Some popular herbs used for medicinal purposes include aloe, garlic, ginseng, green tea, and st. john's wort.
