Heat Stroke in Pets

Research Notes on Heat Stroke in Pets

If your pet has labored breathing, appears listless, is panting, collapses, or has glazed eyes, they may be suffering from heatstroke. Heatstroke should be considered an emergency, requiring veterinary assistance. Animals that overheat can develop kidney problems, bleeding disorders, and brain damage very quickly; often within minutes. There are ways to prevent heat stroke. Make sure that your pet always has a cool shady area to lie in, if they are outdoors in warm weather. Always have plenty of water available for your pet. And never leave your pet in car, even with the windows down.
