Research Notes on Heat Exhaustion
Heat exhaustion is caused by a loss of salt and water from the body, usually through excessive sweating. If you are exposed to high temperatures for a long time and don't replace the fluids you lose, the body systems that regulate temperature become overwhelmed. This will result in decreased blood volume that causes many symptoms, that sometimes includes fainting or collapse. Heat exhaustion requires immediate attention because it can progress to heat stroke, a serious illness.
