Research Notes on Heartworm Disease in Cats
Heartworm disease is caused by a roundworm called dirofilaria immitis. Heartworm can only be transmitted from one animal to another through mosquito bites. Many cats do not show any clinical signs of infection while others develop a chronic cough and other respiratory signs.
