Research Notes on Heart Failure
Heart failure does not mean the heart has quit working. It means the heart can no longer pump blood sufficiently. One or both sides of the heart may be affected by heart failure.1
Fast Facts:
- In the United States, about five million people have heart failure.2
- Symptoms of heart failure may include shortness of breath, lack of appetite, general tiredness, chronic cough, nausea, rapid weight gain, fast or irregular heartbeat, and swelling of the abdomen, legs, feet or ankles.3
- There is no cure for heart failure.1
