Research Notes on Healthy Cholesterol Levels
A healthy LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) level is less than 100 mg/dL. A healthy HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) level is 60 mg/dL or higher.1 A desirable total cholesterol is under 200 mg/dL.2
Fast Facts:
- A total cholesterol level of 200–239 mg/dL puts a person at borderline to high risk for heart disease.1
- A total cholesterol of 240 mg/dL and above puts a person at high risk for heart disease.1
- Age, family history, smoking and high blood pressure can affect cholesterol levels.1
