Research Notes on HealthMap
HealthMap is an mashup of Google Maps, which means you take a Google Map and add to it information from any source you like. In the case of HealthMaps they use dependable sources to pinpoint global outbreaks of disease.1 This quote from their website explains the concept in detail: "HealthMap brings together disparate data sources to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. This freely available Web site integrates outbreak data of varying reliability, ranging from news sources (such as Google News) to curated personal accounts (such as ProMED) to validated official alerts (such as World Health Organization)."2
"'Fast Facts:"'
- HealthMaps.org should not be confused with Healthmapforms.com
- HealthMaps.org also provides disease information for animals, as well.3
- HeathMaps.org should be used by all who plan to travel in the United States, or abroad.4
