Research Notes on Head and Neck Cancer
Head and neck cancers are cancers that develop in the mouth, throat, lymph nodes, sinuses, nose, salivary glands and the throat.1 Head and neck cancers make up about 5% of all cancers in the United States with about 60,000 cases diagnosed each year.2 Treatment options include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.3
Fast Facts:
- 85% of head and neck cancers are linked to tobacco and alcohol use.1
- Symptoms include a sore in the area, difficulty swallowing, trouble breathing or speaking, persistent blocked nose or nose bleeds, difficulty hearing and pain in the face or upper jaw.4
- Head and neck cancers are uncommon in those under age 50.5
