Research Notes on Hay Fever Symptoms
Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, causes cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, congestion, sneezing, and sinus pressure.1 Hay fever also has symptoms of coughing, itching eyes, dark circles under your eyes, swollen eyes, crusting eyelids, and sensation of plugged ears.2 In allergic rhinitis, your body's immune system interprets the allergen as an invader and releases histamine into the bloodstream to fight it. Those with hay fever will find they have sudden sneezing, watery nasal discharge, puffy eyes, and fatigue.3
