Research Notes on Hands
The hands (med./lat.: manus, pl. manūs) are the two intricate, prehensile, multi-fingered body parts normally located at the end of each arm of a human or other primate. They are the chief organs for physically manipulating the environment, using anywhere from the roughest motor skills (wielding a club) to the finest (threading a needle), and since the fingertips contain some of the densest areas of nerve endings on the human body, they are also the richest source of tactile feedback so that sense of touch is intimately associated with human hands. ...Read more at Wikipedia

- Fingers have no muscles. The muscles which bend the finger joints are located in the palm and up in the mid forearm.1
- Almost 90 per cent of women and 80 per cent of men in the age group 75-79 years have x-ray evidence of osteoarthritis in their hands.1
- In one study, carpal tunnel syndrome was found in 9 percent of women between the ages of 25 and 74.1
- White children are four times more likely than black children to be born with webbed fingers.1
- Black children are ten times more likely than white children to be born with extra fingers.1
