Halitosis, the medical term for bad breath, is the bad smelling odor a person breathes out of the mouth. There are a number of reasons why a person has bad breath, the most common being odor arising from oral bacteria, due to poor oral hygiene or diet. Medical conditions such as gum disease and chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are also known to cause bad breath. Determining the cause can help in effectively treating bad breath.
