Research Notes on Health Savings Accounts
Health Savings Accounts or HSAs are a medical savings account. These accounts are not subject to federal income tax. They are available to all taxpayers. Unlike flexible spending accounts they may rollover into the next year if the funds are unused.1
Fast Facts:
- You must be covered by a high deductible health plan in order to take advantage of HSAs.2
- You control the money in your HSA, and can decide how the money can be spent.3
- The amounts allowed for 2009 are $3,000 for individuals and $5,950 for families.4
