Research Notes on HIV Testing
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV can be spread through blood, semen, vaginal fluid and breast milk.1 Testing is important for early detection and treatment. Testing also allows those infected to be aware so they can take measures to prevent spreading HIV to others.2
Fast Facts:
- The CDC estimates that there are 180,000 to 280,000 people world wide unaware that they are HIV positive.2
- If testing is done within 3 months of exposure, testing again is recommended.3
- June 27th is National HIV Testing Day.4
