Research Notes on Group B Strep Treatment for Infants
Infection with Group B Streptococcus (GBS), also known as Streptococcus agalactiae, can cause serious illness, especially in newborn infants and the elderly. Treatment of GBS positive women with 2 million units of intravenous penicillin at the onset of labor and at intervals of every 4 hours until delivery reduces early neonatal infection, as long as the woman receives at least one dose 4 hours before delivery.
