Research Notes on Grapefruit
Like other citrus fruits, grapefruit is high in vitamin C, as well as being a source of lycopene and fiber. Studies have shown that grapefruit may help with weight loss, and may help lower cholesterol and protect people from diabetes. On the down side, grapefruit can interact with some medications, so people on some drugs, like statins and calcium channel blockers should talk to their doctor before consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Additionally, at least one study has suggested that grapefruit consumption can raise the risk of developing breast cancer.
