High-density lipoprotein commonly known as HDL are lipoproteins that carry fatty acids and cholesterol from the body's tissues to the liver. They are the smallest and densest of the lipoproteins. They are seen as the good lipoprotein because they transport cholesterol to the liver for excretion or re-utilization.
