Research Notes on Goiter
A goiter is the inflammation of the thyroid gland. It is most commonly caused by a lack of iodine in the diet that prevents certain hormones from being secreted. Normally, a goiter is located on the neck, just below the Adam's apple or the voice box
Fast Facts:
- The thyroid gland produces hormones that help to control the body's metabolism.
- Goiter can be caused by either too much or too little production of these hormones.
- There are different types of goiters, depending on the cause and amount of inflammation.
