Research Notes on Glycolic Acid Peels
Your skins appearance can be improved by having a chemical peel performed by a dermatologist. Glycolic acid is one of the chemicals that can be used. It will cause the old skin to peel off and new skin with a better texture and color will appear.1 Glycolic acid can also be purchased to perform peels at home, or mixed in with daily beauty care products.2
Fast Facts:
- Glycolic acid is a constituent of sugar cane juice and lactic acid, both are found in sour milk and tomato juice.2
- A glycolic acid peels is considered a "light" peel and is not as harsh as other chemical peels. But extreme caution should be used if doing it yourself.2
- There is a low risk of scaring when performed by a dermatologist. The risk is higher when doing it yourself.1
