Glucosamine sulfate is the most widely used type of glucosamine for clinical studies and research.1 It is also the most recommended form of glucosamine to use as a supplement to relieve joint pain and swollen joints associated with osteoarthritis.2 All types of glucosamine are derived from shell fish.1
