Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia

Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia is a condition characterized by a sharp and electric-like pain in the deep throat, tongue, tonsils and ear, which can be felt during chewing or swallowing.1 This is caused by an abnormally positioned artery that compresses the glossopharyngeal nerve (Cranial Nerve IX) near where it exits the brain stem. Rarely, the cause is a tumor in the brain or neck.2
