Research Notes on Giardia Symptoms
Giardiasis is the leading cause of water-borne parasitic infection in America.1 The illness is spread via live parasitic ingestion or the ingestion of an inactive cyst that, when mixed with the digestive enzymes in the small intestine, becomes activated and becomes a parasite.1 The most noted symptom of giardiasis is diarrhea.2
Fast Facts:
- Other common symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating and gas, nausea and vomiting, and headaches.2
- Symptoms usually appear about two weeks after infection.3
- Symptoms last approximately two to six weeks.3
