Research Notes on Gastritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Gastritis in rheumatoid arthritis may be due to two factors. Firstly, rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. The immune system attacks even the healthy cells of some organs of the body. This can cause the stomach to be destroyed and may even result to stomach cancer later in life. Secondly, pain relievers taken for rheumatoid arthritis thins the stomach lining with regular use. This causes gastritis or a more serious ulcer condition.
