Only 1 to 4 percent of the people effected with gallstones will develop symptoms of gallstone disease and only 5 percent of these will develop pancreatitis.1 Gallstone pancreatitis is caused when a migrating gallstone obstructs the ampulla of vater.1 These stones can block the flow of bile from the gallbladder and this is usually felt as pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen. 1
