Research Notes on Gall Bladder
The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ connected to the liver. The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile. Bile is a digestive liquid continually secreted by the liver. The gallbladder aids in the digestive process.1
Fast Facts:
- The gallbladder stores about 1.7 fluid ounces of bile, which is released when food containing fat enters the digestive tract.2
- Sometimes the substances contained in bile crystallize in the gallbladder, forming gallstones.1
- A patient can have their gallbladder removed surgically with few complications.1
